walter gibbons, a true master of the mix, a disco legend, a pioneer of dance music. theres literally very few who can lay claim to progressing the artform of studio mixing and technique than the late gibbons. his contribution to contemporary music cannot be understated, first as a dj where his drum laced experimentation captured the ears and minds of his peers and the dancers, then later as a mixer and studio genius where he continued on his quest. often fixated on the percussion and breaks within records his versions would often dive into spaced out, dubby and stripped back territory that very few of his peers were even contemplating at that time, fervently reconstructing the tracks themselves and often the time, space and dancefloor within which the record was being played. a true original, gibbons was behind many of the definitive versions of the classics, his unique style often catapulting records that were just fine in their original form into brand new colourful, cosmic interpretations that flourished sonically and rhythmically with brand new sounds that bristled with vision.

bondage music label-founders pornbugs return to the imprint this september with their �pacho� ep, backed with remixes from pablo bolivar and phillipp gonzales. leipzig/berlin based duo pornbugs make a welcome return to their own label here with two new original cuts, �pacho� opens the package with stripped-back drums, a bulbous bass line and choppy piano chords running alongside a bubbling arpeggio lead and tension building stab sequences. pablo bolivar�s rawmake of pacho follows, edging things into deeper territory with dropped tempo dusty drums, airy pads and an amalgamation of wandering, resonant synth lines. the second half of the release, pencilled for release as vinyl only features another original from pornbugs, entitled �larica� and featuring a similar aesthetic to the lead with fluttering dubby chords, a refined drum groove and unfolding atmospherics carrying the groove before label regular phillipp gonzales turns in his remix to complete the package, taking things in a more raw direction with heavily swung crunchy drums, pulsating filtered stabs and billowing vocal murmurs.

ryo murakami is based on osaka entered the world of music playing piano at an early age, then was devoted to synthesizers and drum machines. his productions contain alternative dance music and classical contemporary music, a combination of atmospheric ambient, noise and drone. his production history had been varied up until his album released on his own imprint depth of decay in 2013 since between releases on bug�s poker flat, the dessous label and the more recent releases on german outlets baud and styrax.

matt edwards� reissue label r-time records presents �after dark� this september with three tracks from mark the 909 king. following reissues of excellent music by sir lord commix, fbk and sanasol (thor & yagya), rekids offshoot r-time records now presents definitive cuts from mark the 909 king. debuting with the timeless �can you dig it!� on sex trax in �94, the producer went on to release via a number of new york house legend dj duke�s labels throughout the mid-nineties. a huge fan of dj duke since the 90s, matt edwards even held a sex mania night at berghain in 2009 featuring a rare dj performance from the duke himself. alongside tracks by roy davis jr and trackman (jon cutler), �after dark� featured as part of a va release on the label dj exclusive, whilst �into space� landed on rated x records, and �the loft� appeared on the �can you dig it� album via power music records. �after dark� set the tone of the package with a piercing drum groove, airy arpeggios and a funky bassline, before cosmic synths and crunchy snares work alongside scintillating chords in �into space.� concluding the package, �the loft� begins with a hooky bass sequence and filtered effects before soothing melodies come into play.

a new adepth audio record featuring canadian rennie foster, including a remix of nomadico (dj dex/underground resistance). the title track witch hazel is a 9 minute long track with no breakdown and a minimal approach to arrangement, with organic elements cycling in and out subtly rather than obviously beginning and ending. a rolling half time, tribal groove drives the power of the track with a haunting vocal sample and layers of percussion creating a heady, polyrhythmic hypnosis on the dance floor. not since rennie s well known devil s water has he presented such an overtly occult offering as this extremely finely crafted ep, and this song represents the initial seduction of the record to the listener very effectively. the second track, navigator, is a drum machine driven workout, again with a polyrhythmic and tribal vibe, this time drenched in a rich, holographic pad that morphs and moves in unexpected ways. minimalistic in presentation, this track is bass heavy and functional for the dj, yet artistic and emotional. the nomadico remix by dj dex of underground resistance takes the elements of witch hazel and re-constructs them in a futuristic style with a more driving kick and molten detroit attitude. a heavier techno approach to the piece, but still intact is the melancholic atmosphere of the original and siren song of the vocal sample. this mix includes a dramatic breakdown and unique arrangement familiar to fans of nomadico s awesome yaxteq label. the last track on the ep is called crossing the boundary is possibly the only track in this style to sample distorted vocals usually associated with black metal, making this a very unique, perhaps polarizing, experiment in sound. evocative of the desolation of deep space and suggestive of sonic dark matter. this track combines rennie s singular approach to dub techno with ambient and drone music and the result is like nothing else currently in existence.

emad dabiri, born in iran, began operating under his alias sarin six years ago with ebm, techno, and audiovisual experiments in toronto before moving to berlin in 2014. kuleshov effect marks his fifth release and displays an evolution forward in his productions that are exemplified by cutup sample techniques, mechanical basslines, and piercing drum sequences seamlessly blurring the fine line between puristic techno and bona fide electronic body music. the ep title refers to a cinematic technique developed in 1920s russia in which two images with different inherent meanings are played in sequence creating a third definition by the juxtaposition. from this concept is where the audiovisual montage and sampling approach of sarin is developed. with regular and infamous performances in the berlin club circuit as well as the rest of europe, dabiri expertly implies how his precise methods of production articulate themselves into the techno framework with music that is pure and mechanical yet incessantly funky and addictive. obsessively sampling from films of espionage, tension, conflict, and war, sarin fuses this imagery with his meticulously curated compositions to force through a new sound.

crazy 12 track library music style album on this ace italian label. all based around bumping live rhythms triggering an obscure japanese drum synth module recorded in 2018. it was november 2017 when i received a call from an old friend, hi fabrizio, i found a rare japanese drum machine, you should come and see it before i put this on ebay. i went to check it out and immediately realized it had more potential than just drum sounds generation, it was able to produce quirky and creepy sounds if triggered by any sound source. so i bought it and brought in the studio, where me and alex were laying down new beats and ideas. it took just three days of jams to get the skeleton of this record done: i programmed the module to receive alex s drum hits and the device started creating synth lines, almost as it was speaking its own language.i ve found a soul in this machine, and i wanted to bring it to life in these tracks, a mix of arranged compositions and improvised jams. no root keys, no grids, no clicks, everything came out in an instinctive and natural way as far as we know it s the first time this synthesizer/drum machine is been used in this improper and new way.

francis harris exceptional run of releases for his own labels scissors & thread and kingdoms now extends to this perfectly formed ep for hafendisko, which sees him rework some of hfn musics finest moments of the last two years. harris, the brooklynite whose feel for subtlety and space seems to infuse all his work, takes on three of the hamburg labels cannon - kicked off with kasper bjorkes cloud 9, featuring urdur. here harris deconstructs the original and reforms it into a some quite removed from its origins - shuffling drum machines bring about a kraftwerkesque feel, before beautiful tones and atmospheres reveal themselves. the track seems to develop along two paths simultaneously, somehow creating a truly affecting piece of leftfield electronica. null + voids huge dave gahan-featuring-track where i wait has been heavily remixed over the past months, but also gets the harris treatment. completely flipped form the original, this is a haunting remix with tough and funky underbelly, utilizing gahans vocals only sparingly. danish alt-pop trio ticktock have their single hatefuck refixed also, and harris zones in on the glitchy vibe and adds layers of claustrophobic depth to the production.

back with another pair of his heavy-hitting hardspace mixes, len faki hands two mighty club-weapons. aimed at no less than unleashing havoc on the floor is the edit of frantic drum-roll-fest lazer beam. already quite a force to be reckoned with, faki manages to beef-up the mix even more, adding rumbling bass-weight and injecting some extra steam to make it roll out until the end. on the flip side there�s the hypnotic groove of space taxi. captivating and enveloping, this mix alters the original signature bass in order to shift gears into what feals like full forward there�s no escaping this one! as with all releases of lf rmx, the proceeds of this record will be forwarded to the berlin organization straßenkinder e.v. to be used in actions against child poverty.

too smooth christ returns to supergenius records and widens his singular approach to introspective dance music to new musical horizons. infinite fall dmz is a slow house jam built around a hypnotic and endless fm pattern and a strong chorus bass, emphasized by a myriad of shiny bittersweet 101 sparks. pheqs125, originally made for tsc current live act, triggered such keen reactions in clubs that we decided to cut it down. its an acidish banger, elaborated around a 303 pattern, a rave detuned bassline and a b-more breakbeat, tickled by synthetic voices. with its rainforest chords and melodies and its muffled breakbeat, the eponymous track with you in mind is a love declaration between balearic house and old-school jungle / idm. etoile closes the ep with its uk bass vibe, a combination of tribal drum patterns and a grime beat and narrative bassline which will attract you in some mysterious caverns where the magic monsters hide.

folks, here is tilly jam number four, served by till von sein with a striking can�t stop, won�t stop attitude. as if the first three fourtrackers were just heating things up, he�s firing out another ensemble of four to bring serious exercise to the floor. �say say say�, the opening title track of this ep checks many trademarks its originator is known and praised for. an explicitly soulful affair, even flexing some g-funk muscles here and there. crackling vinyl noise in the background, warm and thick bass footing, a bassline doing the filterhouse-routine and a sample heavy arrangement that even gets a boost-up after half of its running time. then there is �shadrach�. go do some exegesis if interested where that name stems from. we can assure you, this jazz-infused build-up including nervous hi-hat patterns, a boldly bass groove, a frenzy drum-solo, inciting chants and a horn section scaling things up, stems directly from peaktime heaven. and on b1, �impala� is taking up the thread of this rather outgoing vibe, tvs is going for with this set of tunes. find an energetic beat providing the ground work for filtered adlibs that kinda nail what comes to mind when this track gets mixed in. �whoo-hoo-hoo� � that�s right. just add some subtle percussive lining and let a saxophone take over and you�ll have another trigger for floor-ecstasy at hand. cooling things off a little bit it�s �baden powell dr� as closing cut. tilly is winding up the melancholy-meter on this one, reversing elements and by adding pianochords and synth-pads, infusing an overall mood of wind-whistling summertime-sadness
